Welcome to Paige's Book

Paige’s Book shares real classroom techniques an online teacher uses at home, from growth mindset to online class engagement.

About

I design learning for people who are hard to reach.

That has meant different things across twelve years. It meant ninth graders at Albert Einstein High School who had decided reading wasn’t for them. It meant students learning English from the other side of the world, on a screen, with a teacher they had never met. Right now it means a five-year-old in Shanghai whose previous teacher couldn’t hold his attention for a full lesson.

The through line is that engagement is a design problem, not a personality trait. Most instruction fails not because the content is wrong, but because nothing in the experience gives the learner a reason to stay.

Background

I taught English and reading in Maryland public schools from 2014 to 2018, at Albert Einstein High School and White Oak Middle School. From 2018 to 2020 I worked with GOGOKID in Beijing as an independent contractor, delivering professional development workshops and one-to-one mentoring to teachers across the platform alongside my own teaching load. I earned Gold Medal status with more than 2,000 five-star parent ratings.

At Pearson Online Academy from 2020 to 2021, I designed and hosted LiveLessons and trained teachers to deliver them.

Since 2021 I have run an independent practice, building curriculum and interactive learning experiences for individual students and families. Since 2026 I have served as a Trainer with Creative Chinese Club, providing professional development for teachers on a global team, giving feedback on curriculum and learning systems, and supporting instructional quality.

Why literacy matters to this work

A learning experience is only as good as the learner’s ability to get into it. My background as a Reading Specialist means I treat text complexity, cognitive load, and decoding demand as design variables rather than afterthoughts. Most learning designers don’t have that lens.
