Live For Today…. (And Maybe A Little Bit For Tomorrow, Too)

This one is a tricky one. I will be honest. How do we live for today but plan for the best tomorrow? Is there a way to live in the moment, while preparing for the future?

Yes, yes there is! You just need to find your balance.

The other day I was listening to a podcast interview between Oprah Winfrey and Kate Hudson. Oprah asked the actress, author, and athletic-wear designer how she balances it all. Oprah noted that she has always been amazed at how grounded and radiant Kate is while being so successful. She stated that it is about taking in each day, while tirelessly pursuing what needs to be done in order to achieve your goals for tomorrow. She said that she has always been this way, but it has been a life-long journey of intention and hardwork.

It is about activating your body, mind, and inner-self to work together. They need to work together to create balance. Whether this is eating foods that fuel and nourish your body, moving your body so that the one you are living in is strong, or spending time with people who you love and bring out the best in you- it all requires daily attention. Consistency and work-ethic work wonders when they are put into place. There is a way to be present and purposeful. In fact, when we plan for our future self, it actually makes living in the present even more enjoyable and profound. When we know we are working towards something, and improving ourselves as people, the present moment becomes exciting. This is not to say that a rest is not needed sometimes. It is actually necessary in order to perform at our highest. But, again, it is about balance and finding when rest is most beneficial to us.

We all want something more for ourselves; or at least we should all be striving to become better each day. Maybe this is a dream job, a fitness goal, a relationship, or simply a new habit or skill we want to acquire. It all takes daily action and intention. Start small, one step at a time. BUT, don’t forget to take in each day as it comes. While we should plan for tomorrow, we are only guaranteed today. Don’t waste it.

I will end with some ways that Kate Hudson stays so radiant, balanced, and successful:

  • Being positive is key. It is not ignoring when things go wrong. It is actually about embracing it and choosing to see the good in life, in each situation.
  • Don’t chase being completely balanced. There will always be something that may feel out of balance, and that is okay. If everything were balanced and perfect, there would be nothing to work towards, right?
  • Connecting with others is the most important thing we can do.
